SUBJECT: Box Hill, on the North Downs in Surrey, is most famous for the panoramic far-reaching view to the south from the stone structure on the Viewpoint known as Salomons Memorial. This panoramic painting is based on a view from a position to the west of the Viewpoint – follow the path to the right and just before the steps that lead to the Stepping Stones over the River Mole is a clearing with a rustic bench seat and a fantastic view on a clear day. The town of Dorking is in the centre, with glimpses of the River Mole flowing alongside the fields in the foreground, and the southern slopes of Denbies Vineyard to the right.
